Awesome

So I bought myself the Book of Awesome. Yes I thought it was a little cheesy but since I grew up on "Chicken Soup of the Soul" I thought this would be right up my alley. Here is one that made me laugh.

#93 (of 1000 things that are Awesome) Making it through airport security without any beepsAwesome!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! After having a wirl wind week with teaching up to the very last minute to then wake up at 3am to head to the airport Saturday morning...I could not be happier waking up in Florida and spending a great Christmas morning with my family. May everyones day be filled with love, laughter and family. (Thought this was a cute pic) Here's to a fantastic and relaxing two weeks ahead. Namaste :)

Stars

“The stars don’t have to align, they already have! They’ve aligned in such a way that has created life on this planet. Success and failure are within us. We are born with a purpose in our heart that will never leave us alone. It’s our choice to embrace that purpose and let our hearts and happiness guide us or to make a lower choice and let our fears of failure or success squash what we know in our soul to be true. The only “star” that has to align is our inner constellation of trust. Trust your heart, trust that what makes you happy will always provide for you, and trust that the Universe is whispering your wildest dreams to you and that it will always support you when you are following your heart. The stars don’t have to align, they already have! Now trust them!”

You Haven't Lost Your Place

Sometimes when life shifts and changes, it can feel like we've lost out place.
During those times when our lives are changing, we may feel out of tune, out of rhythm, out of balance. Out of step. Maybe an old feeling is surfacing, clearing, so that we can learn something new and move forward to a new place. Maybe our attention is being diverted to a new focus so we can find and experience another lesson. Sometimes the form or shape of our life is changing dramatically. The old picture is being erased so a new one can be drawn. Familiar people are leaving; new people are entering. We may ache, feel irritable, and doubt the course of our entire journey. We may doubt whether the magical way we were living was even real and whether the magic will ever return.
Let the changes happen. Take extra loving care of yourself. Be attentive to what you need. The magic isn't gone; it hasn't disappeared. You're just going through a shift. That means things are moving, and movement is good.
For now it may feel like you can't
find your place, but that's because
your place is changing.

Mitchell makes me laugh...always :)

Today is your day

You got what it takes you can win
You got what it takes you can win,
Today is your day to begin.
Don't give up here, don't you quit.
The moment is now, this is it
Know that you can then you will
Get to the top of the hill
Part of the fun is the climb
You just gotta make up your mind
That today is your day
And nothing can stand in your way
Today is your day
Everything's goin' your way
Today (you can do it)
Today (c'mon c'mon)
Today (c'mon do it)
When somebody throws sticks and stones
All they can break are your bones
And life's gonna kick you around
Then kick you again when you're down
But today is your day
And nothing can stand in your way
Today is your day
Everything's goin' your way
Today (c'mon do it now)
Today Today Today
mmmm life's gonna kick you,
its gonna kick you around,
its gonna kick you down
Brush yourself off no regrets
This is as good as it gets
Don't expect more or less
Just go out and give it your best (give it your best)
Today is your day
And nothing can stand in your way

July recap

I just pressed send on my last AQ course assignment and now I feel I can take a deep breath! (5 AQ's down 3 more to go before I am an A4 booya!) Also am sitting in the Westin in Ottawa about to go for a workout, to then get ready and meet up with Chris to join in some of the celebrations for Eric and Anna's wedding! So July...what a great month it has been - I feel as if I have been in full force since the school bell rang June 30th! July 1st - met up with Chris in Cali where we went south from LA, Santa Monica, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach to end up in San Diego for fireworks (can't help but say San Diego like Anchor Man says it. ha!). We had a fantastic time! Cali folk definitely know how to live. Other highlights of the month: Jordan Hodgins was born!!! YAY! (Box and Sean's lil girl) super cute - as I always say seeing one of your best friends new baby is such a surreal and amazing experience, Heather's Bday at Spencers (gorgeous view), Katie and Chris' wedding in Ancaster - one of the best venues todate (Katie looked stunning!), 12 day stay in Muskoka, many trips to Ottawa (including now), long weekend delight with Kim, Rich and Christina (Jen you were missed!), and many more moments...it's great to be a teacher! Can't believe it is August already sloooooooooow down please! Thought I would chalk up some pictures...fav summer pic so far is of Uncle Kev and Mitchell about to play a round of golf. Mitchell seems to get cuter and cuter - I can't get enough! Peace and Love! xo Ps. My parents sold Oakville and are moving to Summerhill. We are going to be neighbours :)

RTCC - check!

I kept wanting to write, especially right after I completed the Ride to Conquer Cancer...but with everything these days I felt I needed sometime to reflect and to also find some spare time. What an experience it was! 200kms and then some from the Ex to Niagara Falls and every little city, town, and open road in between! I will never forget the first time I was a part of the RTCC! I first want to thank all the amazing supporters that helped me get through the event and to help me reach and surpass my fundraising goal...I was amazed, shocked, speechless and felt I was part of something big!! Thank you!! All of the participants together raised a total of 17.5 million dollars! Total awesomeness!! Together We Can! Though I knew mentally and physically I would be able to reach the finish line (as marathons have helped me to realize my potential)...it was really tough, because as always my competitive nature kicked in and I couldn't let myself slow down...I had to give myself a mental pep-talk every so often. That if someone has to deal with cancer I can get past the hill I was trying to climb and can help someone by doing this ride! As I am writing I realize I really can't write down all I experienced...but I will leave by saying Thank you to Team Hope, to our lovely captain Jason, to my fantastic tent mate, Sommer who persevered and got to the finish line with a beaming smile, to the organizers of the event who got me to sleep in a tent again, shower in a transport truck, use port-a-potties all weekend, and fed me healthy meals, to Heather, Marissa, Laura and kiddies with their fantastic signs (one of my students represented too), and Jodie, Mitchell and Chris who met me at the finish...Thank you!! Until next year!! ...because you best be knowing that I am doing this again! holla! - (along with Team Hope's newest members: Jodie, Chris and Heather...and anyone else who wants to join in...beginners to advanced all are welcomed.) peace and love xo

This Weekend I Ride

This past weekend Chris and I participated in the Becel Ride for the Heart - A cause close to my own heart (vsd)...it was such an amazing feeling biking along the Gardner and then up the dvp to look back around to finish at the Ex. What a great perceptive of the city. Though I drive the route on a daily basis it was nice to not hear traffic but just the pedalling of wheels, heart beats, cheers and heavy breathing on hills. Loved it! Can't wait to do it again next year! It was also a great experience to get my legs prepared as this weekend I ride in the ultimate bike journey for me thus far...I partake in the Ride To Conquer Cancer: riding from Toronto to Hammertown (1ook) on Saturday to then sleep in a tent and wake up at the crack of dawn to hit the roads and ride to Niagara (100k) on Sunday. I cant help but be nervous about everything...nervous about the distance and if I will have someone to pace with me, about whether or not I will get my first flat tire (knock on wood), is it going to rain? and going old school and reliving my youth of camping out in a tent Saturday night...oh and lets not forget my furthest riding distance has been 95k...ahhh! Lots to think about. However, I am going to embrace the unknown, embrace the experience and know that the $3,274 I raised will help to change lives and ultimately change the future. Each peddle stroke is for a purpose. Wish me luck! Thank you to all of you who helped me in this journey! xoxo

Congratulations to cc

Congratulations to Chris who ran in his first running race this past weekend in Oakville (10k Mercedes-Benz)! Holla! I think he now has the itch as he has been speaking of his strategies for up coming races...yay! I have converted yet another. Love it! Now I just have to get my act together. Chris left me in his dust at the 2k mark...as I was suffering big time. Jodie was going to sub in for me as I was in no shape to even walk the day before as I was super sick (argh!)...but thought to try it out. Anywho slowest race in my life...but it is nice to be somewhat back. Would love to train for a half for the fall. We'll see. Anywho, very busy weekend: headed to the cottage Friday night to celebrate Steph's big 25! Love being up north..to then realize I was really ill and went to bed at midnight, where I felt like i was sleeping in a club until 5am where the 20 somethings partied the night away. Chris and i slowly but surely made our way to oakville on Saturday, ran our race sunday, to then celebrate 2 of my fav moms (Brenda and Jodie) with the fam. Lovely weekend! Wish it was still going.

Perfection

I really just don't have the words for what I felt when watching the Royal Wedding....
I wasn't one of the millions who woke up uber early to watch...as I am one who desperately needs sleep before teaching...however, if I could go back, I would have set my alarm. It was such a fantastic and surreal experience seeing the magical wedding - everyone coming together to witness a real life fairy tale and to experience tradition at its finest! Of course when I got to school and realized most of my students woke up at 3am, I thought why not watch some highlights to join in...so that's just what we did...and as I looked around the classroom I too witnessed most all my students watch in awe with a smile on their faces. sigh! Since then I have been watching all re-runs, Kate and William's life stories, Oprah's royal party, and anything else that follows the morning of the wedding since...love love love! My fav moments: Kate's walk up to Westminster, watching the adoring fans, David Beckham, the moment when William sees Kate and mouths "you look beautiful", Mr. Middleton's constant smile, the royal entourage and of course Kate's dress...perfection!
ps. Had a nice sip in see in Georgetown at Laura's for Heather and Mabel xo

Product Endorsement #8

Christina and I headed to the Toronto Yoga Show yesterday and found a couple sweet finds! The number one being a "Libre Tea" holder - we both couldn't resist and each walked away with one to go. We should have made a little comish because people would come up to us and ask us where we got it.

Here is a little 411 on the new gem: New large size - for the ’big’ tea lover, the Libre glass ‘n poly is the attractive, convenient, and durable solution to enjoying loose leaf tea ‘on the go. The Libre glass ’n poly large is the ‘big gulp’ of tea with a 420 mL capacity. It has a health-conscious glass interior for fresh taste and a durable polycarbonate exterior for ‘on the go’ durability. The stainless steel tea filter is surrounded by BPA free polypropylene as is the lid interior. Can be used 2 ways to brew and travel with loose leaf.

Check out online or for a nice discount make your way to the Yoga Show which finishes at the end of today: Libre Tea

ps. $100 to go to reach my goal of $2500 raised for The Ride to Conquer Cancer. holla!

Also I have done LOTS of rides with this bike and have been able to hold my own with the big leagues! I just feel that it is time to move a step up. Dolce is going to be missed! So anyone who is interested please let me know...or pass on the word! ps. The handles are no longer white - re-gripped last year in black.

1. I loved being in Florida for March break!! There is something super special about having an amazing time with your family and their fiddies. The perfect weather might have had something to do with it! When can I go back?!? Fav moments: yoga at BV and on the beach, St. Paddy's Day and Kevin's Birthday celebrations, continuing to be mesmerized by Mitchell and all he brings to our lives, our dinners around the best table to date, our boat trip through the canals, beach club luxury, of course outlet shopping (sigh), and the feeling you get when you spend the entire day outdoors!
2. THANK YOU for all the donations I recieved yesterday for the Ride to Conquer Cancer! I am up to $1125...oh my goodness!! I have some amazing people in my life! I am just under 50%....and am hoping I get to the full amount (can't ride with out the full amount...boo hoo!)...so please even if you have a fiver to spare, the donation would mean the world! Thank you thank you thank you!!

3. Congratulations to Christina and Dave who recently got engaged!! Holla!! Soo exciting!!

4. I am no longer in my probationary period as a first year teacher...my 2 evaluations have been completed and I got the letter in the mail to say I'm smooth sailing. exhale!

Calling all friends, families and readers!

Hi Family and Friends!!

On June 11-12th I will be participating in a 2-day major cycling event called The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting The Princess Margaret, one of the top 5 cancer research hospitals in the world.

I'll be cycling over 200km that weekend, from Toronto to Niagara Falls, with thousands of other Riders. All the proceeds will go to The Princess Margaret to support cancer research, treatment, and services. The Princess Margaret is Canada's leading comprehensive institution devoted to cancer research and care, and the work they're doing is leading-edge.

I've agreed to raise at least $2,500, which is the most overwhelming part of the entire event...and I have had sleepless nights over this number. BUT I know I can do it!! So here's where you come in (my lovely friends and family), because I need your help to do that!! (Lots of help!!) Could you please consider making a donation? (Of ANY amount!!) Use the link at the bottom of this email to go visit my webpage, and please take the time to support me. Please keep in mind the commitment I'm making to end this heartbreaking disease and the personal efforts I'll have to make to accomplish this.

When I say "heartbreaking," here's what I mean: research at the National Cancer Institute of Canada show 171,000 estimated new cases of cancer in Canada this year and 75,300 estimated deaths from cancer in Canada this year. That's why I'm riding. To do something BIG about cancer. I hope that you'll share this incredible adventure with me by supporting me in my fundraising efforts.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, I will be forever greatful!

Sincerely,

Erin (and Team Hope)

Thank you to Heather, Christina, Chris, My parents, Jenny, and Mike who made the first donations!! Holla!! Love ya!

'MAYA ANGELOU'S'

(have heard this before, and perhaps have posted it ....but always find joy in reading it...thanks Jen xo)
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE
enough money within her control to move out
and rent a place of her own, even if she never wants to or needs to...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .
something perfect to wear if the employer,
or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .
a youth she's content to leave behind....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .
a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to
retelling it in her old age....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .
a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .
one friend who always makes her laugh..
and one who lets her cry...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .
a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .
eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems,
and a recipe for a meal, that will make her guests feel honored...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE
a feeling of control over her destiny..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
how to fall in love without losing herself..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
how to quit a job,

and confront a friend without;
ruining the friendship...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
when to try harder... and WHEN TO WALK AWAY..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
that she can't change the length of her calves,

a little sunday cookin'

So instead of running the chilly half this morn (which I didn't train for but am really starting to miss the running life) I decided to have a sleep in from having a later evening and being caught in the snow walking home, to then go to the Avenue Diner for brunch, onto the grocery store and then into the kitchen...and have just sat down after an afternoon of cooking and baking. Sooo seeing as I like to share my new knowledge here are some easy peasy healthy recipes:

1. Spiced Butternut Squash & Apple Soup
It is my turn this Tuesday to prepare soup for the staff so after looking through Oprah's cook book and keeping things vegetarian and dairy free decided upon this one. (It is important to have someone near by who can cut through a butternut squash...after that step is complete the recipe turns easy!)
Ingredients:
- 2 Tbsp. olive oil
- 1 Medium onion cut into 1/4 inch chunks
- 2 celery sticks cut into 2 pieces
- 1 butternut squash (about 3.5 lbs - peeled, seeded, and cut into 1/2 inch chunks)
- 6 cups of vegetable stock
- 2 tsp of fennel seeds
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
- 1 bay leaf
- 3 McIntosh apples (peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2 inch chunks)
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
- 1/2 cup of plain yogurt for garnish (I skipped this step....dairy)
Steps:
To make soup: In large pit, heat olive oil over medium high heat. Add onion and celery and cook, stirring until tender and lightly browned, about 7 minutes. Add squash and cook an additional 3 minutes. Add stock, fennel seeds, cinnamon, cardamom, and bay leaf. Bring to boil, then reduce to a simmer; cook 15 minutes. Add apples and vinegar and continue cooking 12 minutes. Remove from heat and puree either in batches in a food processor or blender or all together. Season with salt and pepper. May add croutons to garnish and yogurt.

2. Healthy Berry Bran Muffins
(compliments of Heather! - second time making these though I have HALVED the ingredients to only make around 18 muffins)
Ingredients:
- 4 cups of Bran Flakes (I use organic)
- 2 cups of All Bran Buds (organic)
- 2 cups of boiling hot water
- 1 cup of coconut oil
- 3/4 cup of cane sugar
- 3/4 cup of agave (or Maple syrup)
- 4 cups of Almond Milk
- 4 eggs (yes this is not a vegan recipe...argh!)
- 1/2 cup of molasses
- 5 cups of spelt flour
- 2 tbsp of salt
- 3 cups of frozen berries
Steps:
Mix cereal and hot water and set aside. In a separate bowl cream together coconut oil and sugars (cane and agave). Beat eggs into creamed mix. Mix in the Almond milk. Add the molasses. Stir in cereal and the remaining ingredients. But mixture into muffin tin or I have done a loaf before. Cook for 20-25 minutes. Easy peasy and delish!! I freeze half the muffins for future days.

Ps. Will start to share some vegan recipes. I made eggplant "Parmesan" the other day and thought it was gooood...have decided to continue to eliminate dairy and meat from my meals as I am going on week 2...but am going to eat fish and the odd egg...just an fyi ;)
Pps. Florida is 6 sleeps away. holla!

What's in for the spring

According to my fav Style Watch by People magazine:
drum roll please...
1. Bright Colours (gotta work on that...hmm)
2. Thick Heals (always looking for an excuse for new heels)
3. Colourful Stripes (more colour?)
4. Envelope Bags (my red clutch will work)
5. Sleeveless Jackets (not a fan)
6. Sexy Snakeskin (argh)
7. Modern Whites (looove wearing white!)
8. Peasant Blouses (got that covered!)
9. Bright Gold (Always have my gold faux options)
10. Flirty Florals (purchased a shirt or two that's flirty and floral)
hmm soo guess I am ok for the moment...no need to shop...phew! other than for heels, perhaps Florida or Piperlime can help me out?!?
ps. Read the book "Skinny Bitch" which is all about being Vegan...and for the past 5 days or so I have been trying to live that way...however I don't need the title, but am trying to cut out red meat, chicken and dairy, and to drink more herbal teas and organic wines. Will let you know in a week or so my thoughts. so far I am feeling much better!! peace out! Florida bound is just around the corner!! yeeeah!

and the winner goes to...

This was a struggle for me this year...there was no real wow that I expereinced when I saw dresses, but more of an appreciation for how the dress suited the person. So here are my top 3 choices. On a side note: thought Anne Hatheway has some great wardrobe changes...that girl can also cleary rock the tan free look! Alsoooo finally have enough reason to drag Chris to go and see Kings Speech!! Annnnd my own tid bit...was soo disturbed watching Black Swan that I had a hard time being happy for Natalie Portman. argh!

ssb

while Chris is away in Florida and Chicago for the week (yes, must be nice!) and I am partaking in my 'house to myself' routine...I realize that I definitely have ssb's (secret single behaviours - shout out to SATC) drum roll (I'm sure you are dieing to know...lol): soak my hair in Moroccan oil most nights, catch up on PVR'ed Oprah's and Sex and the City reruns, wear my comfy lulu's, paint my nails, blog, read fashion mags, workout, do some yoga, laundry, eat either sushi, pad thai or cereal for din, sleep in the middle of the bed (as most nights I'm fighting for the covers), figure out which clothes haven't seen the light of day recently, catch up with friends, read, and online window shop...and of course count down the days for Christopher to return ;)

fam day

Happy Family Day! But most importantly Happy Long Weekend! Chris and I as per usual decided to do a cross country trip and headed to Ottawa and Tremblant for the weekend. I was looking forward to spending some time with his fam (which of course we did), but also to finally skate the canal and celebrate Winterlude. However, because of the lovely thaw we had on Thursday (which I wouldn't have traded for anything), the canal was closed on the day we wanted to go and the ice sculptures we did see seemed a little melted. Needless to say Mr. Carriere owes me a winterlude canal date in 2012 ;) However, we did make our way to Tremblant and enjoyed some boarding. I'm always amazed by what Canada has to offer. Tremblant is a pretty cool village and has some great slopes. Definitely recommend a visit. Anywho Happy Family Day to all! The Bryce's will be celebrating our Family Day during March break where we are ALLLL making our way to Florida.
p.s. I am officially back running again. Chris and I signed up for the Benz 10k race in May...so that has given me a kick start into training for something again. Perhaps a half in the fall. allllright, peace out Sushi just arrived!
pps. Took dance lessons for the very first time this past week...due to cost we are going to youtube our lessons until we find a place that is reasonable in yorkville. never an easy task..but I quite enjoyed the 2 lessons we had :)

Alright I am on a roll...3rd posting of the day...just waiting for Chris to get organized so we can hit the streets. Soo a new website I frequent to window shop is: Piperlime.com
Definitely recommend the visit. A couple weeks ago I ordered ninewest ankle boots for only $54 and it was free shipping to the states. Love love love. It's affiliated with Gap and BR, but it has lots of name brands and good steals and deals. Also gives you a heads up about whats coming out for the next season. Just a friendly FYI from me to you.
