Style Icon

As all of you know, I have a itsy bitsy appreciation for fashion....and just the other day I was asked who would be my style icon? who would I switch closets with? ...and the hands down answer was "Sienna Miller". I think what makes her so unique is her ability to put an outfit together that are from all different stores. She has the ability to put a pair of R&R jeans, with a Chloe bag, Topshop shirt, and flea market scarf together seamlessly! I think it's so important to not be so hung up on wearing a top to bottom $$ outfit, but to choose your pieces and then go bargain shopping (Tar-get, Topshop, H&M, JoeFresh and old navy)...for now a days these bargain stores are competing with the heavy hitters and are becoming very creative and trendy, and in some cases have more selection and style then the designer stores. I do think your staple items such as jeans should be an investment, and I do love finding a "must have" at holts...but you know what I mean. I am just trying to give a shout out to my trendy bargain stores for helping me keep with the trends without burning a hole in my wallet (I've got my Lucy lemon car to do that for me) But back to Sienna I feel she is very unique in her choices, and because of this characteristic it makes her radiate confidence...
Ps. I want to write something about the din din (aps&wine) on Friday night with the girls and our boys, but I am waiting for Josie to arrive back to steal her pictures!! Congrats Erin & Cam, so happy for you both!

St. Patty's

With all the parties going on last night, Jodie and I decided to take a trip to London to spend the night with Kevin and his friends to celebrate his birthday and St. Patty's day. We kind of missed the boat a bit, now remembering that Westerner's start drinking early in the day, and we arrived at 9. None the less we had a great night; lots of laughs and smiles (and of course pics) ha! Happy Birthday Kevin! It's great to have family! It was also such a blast from the past; London is such a great place to go to for school.... Jodie and I were trying to remember when we graduated from UWO, and it was 5 years ago for me and 7 for Jodie...oh my gosh!! where has the time gone! It's true what they say, life goes so fast!
So today I am having a relaxing Sunday, or should I say lazy Sunday; it's already 4:30 and I feel I still have lots to do. So I am going to shut off my computer and go for a run or something. I did just learn how to make edamame's and let me tell you they taste the exact same as they would at a Japanese restaurant...yum!

A Mini Vacation

Last week seemed like a long week, and I needed nothing more than to get away for a mini vacation...and lucky for me Kim invited Chris and I up to her Aunts place in Collingwood! After taking my car into the shop on Saturday; Chris and I headed up. When we got there we caught up with Kim and had an amazing dinner with her family! Then the 3 of us girls headed out on the town ;) We stopped by a cottage where a bunch of our high school friends were staying and had a couple drinks....we then went to the "Village"and did a little bar hopping. Sometimes it's great to tour the town and do as much as you can with your girlfriends! The next day Kim and I pretended we didn't need a sleep in and headed to the Peaks where we hiked the hill. Memories!! It was a strange feeling being back at the Peaks, especially since it was my second home growing up as a kid. Many days were spent over looking Georgian Bay at the Georgian Peaks Ski Club! Any who after our hike up and down on the most gorgeous day of the winter so far, we went back to Kims where we had a scrumptious brunch! Our mission of doing as much as one can do in 2 days continued and we headed to a day spa where we relaxed in out door hot tubs, enjoyed some sauna time and had several Eucalyptus steam sessions...it was the end to a perfect holiday! Thanks Kim!! And now I am back to reality...boo hoo...I went to pick up my car today and of course it cost me close to a grand...oh my gosh!! This month was going to be my saving month, I haven't even really shopped in forever, and of course my car konks out! I guess there is a life lesson to be learned...let me figure it out first before I share. You know when you are desperately trying not to spend money? But the more you try the more money you feel you are shelling out to things you have no control over...argh! I even ran out of Yoga passes today, somebody throw me a frickin bone here!!
pps. Happy Birthday Nana! Even though she is deeply loved and missed, we all know she is somewhere dancing up a storm with a cocktail (apple juice) in one hand, ciggie in the other and looking more gorgeous than can imagine (with Papa by her side), and looking down on us all with a huge smile and peace in her heart!

Ride

I left my camera at Jodie's place over the weekend...so she lent me hers until I visit her place again to pick mine up. Any who on her camera were some pictures of the summer; golfing pics, cottage pics, and my favourite: our pictures from our intense tour or muskoka bike ride!! I can't wait until it warms up outside to get on my bike again and go to places most people aren't fortunate enough to experience. It's the best feeling in the world riding along a long country road with nothing but you and your bike (of course with other riders) and challenging yourself to the fullest for 2+ hours!! The views and landscapes I have seen have been amazing! For all of you who are looking for a new challenge for the summer purchase yourself a road bike and come out for a ride!
ps. Grey's is a repeat...not cool!
pps. (jos) As Oprah always says, when you are going through something upsetting you have to think of the purpose of it (will explain later...I just thought it was suiting for today)

Frozen Tower

Meredith Grey: At the end of the day faith is a funny thing. It turns up when you don't really expect it. Its like one day you realize that the fairy tale may be slightly different than you dreamed. The castle, well, it may not be a castle. And its not so important to have a happy ever after, just that its happy right now. See once in a while, once in a blue moon, people will surprise you , and once in a while people may even take your breath away.
Tonight I headed to Ashtanga and had an amazing class, with my favourite instructor Becky!...I was super focused tonight, even though I have been waking in the 6's every morning this week and am exhausted...but none the less it was such an inspiring class, and I used every muscle in my body to it's fullest....I am going off track...so I went to Yoga tonight, and my instructor was talking about the CN tower and how ice has been slipping off the tower and falling to the streets below...oh my gosh how scary is that?? So I decided to get caught up on things and it's all true. As we speak there is a slab of ice camping out on the CN tower and authorities are trying to figure out what to do....hmm what to do? Grab an extra large hair dryer and start thawing it off....ok ok that's a blonde answer...Maybe wrap the tower with some sort of mesh and hope it catches the ice as it falls...actually now that I mention it; that's a great idea! Somebody get on that!
ps. This week I might try some new templates for blogs...I don't really think the colours suit me...
pps. I always considered myself team aniston...but this picture has allowed me to see both sides

that extra half an inch

Today as I was in Chapters I fell across Victoria Beckham's new book "that extra half an inch...hair, heels and everything in between" . I had seen it in the new InStyle magazine, or it might have been Elle...whichever one i thought it looked very interesting. Needless to say it grabbed my attention, so I decided to purchase the book. For all you fashion guru's out there; I TOTALLY recommend it!! The pictures, and the layout of the book are so smart and very 'posh'. I was never a huge fan of Victoria Beckham's but after reading tid bits of the book, I find her very honest, creative and real to life.
Here is what she says in her introduction that I felt I could some what relate to: "There are people out there who only wear clothes 'because you have to' or 'because it's cold'. Be warned: This book is not for them! It's for girls who love fashion, who love that magical transformation of material on a hanger into something that makes you want to twirl in front of a mirror, that gives you the confidence to think: You know what? I look great! Fashion is how we express our personalities. Our way of saying, 'This is who I am," sometimes even, "This is who I would like to be.' Most of all fashion is about having fun and using your imagination."
.....
"As for the title, I'm actually talking about high heels. OK, so it's a bit tongue-in-cheek - but thats what it's all about. And as every woman knows, that extra half an inch makes all the difference...."
For all you fashionista's out there go pick up your copy today, it will definitely be worth it!
ps. At the end of each chapter she gives a summary of where to shop. For example Accessories: (items) Round Toe Shoes, Chunky boots, flip flops, wedges and platforms, day bags, evening bags, clutches, sunglasses, headbands, etc....and every time she lists a range of shops from Chloe, to Burberry, to Gap and Topshop (topshop being one of her fav stores...she had me at hello...ha!)
pps. Did I mention I think it's a fab book?!?!

Sisters

So last night I headed out to a "The Society" event called "The Hunter & The Hunted". Turned out to be a really fun night. The event was held at Shane Corson's new restaurant in the Distillery. I don't think I have ever been to that area of Toronto, and I thought it was beautiful. I loved the cobble stones and the little village of restaurants. I will definatley want to go back there for a nice romantic dinner sometime ?!?Any who I won't go into too much detail about the night, but let me just tell you our pre-drinks that Erin created for us started the long slippery night ahead...oh man! HA! I also decided to take my camera for the night, and took a couple snap shots. This is one of Jodie and I (looks like I am about to strangle her). As I was looking through the pictures I took I was thinking how much fun we had, and thought I would find a quote about sisters (i know super cheese)....but I came across the following one, and when I read the last line of the poem I started laughing to myself (yes I am also still very tired...so maybe tomorrow it won't be as funny...but it is now so I will post it)
What is a sister?
She is your mirror shining back at you with a world of possibilities. She is your witness who sees you at your worst and best, and loves you anyway. She is your partner in crime, your midnight companion, someone who knows when you are smiling, even in the dark. She is your teacher, your defense attorney, your personal press agent, even your shrink. Some days, she's the reason you wish you were an only child.

ha ha! just kidding...I thought it was a cute poem...
ps. Today was a day for pampering: Heather, Erin and I went and got a manicure and pedicure...ahh! One of my favourite things to do!

Thursday, March 1, 2007

February is so over, it's all about March!

There is something calming to me about snowstorms, and I think it's because it's the one time when it stops all of our regular routines and makes us all slow down and unite as one. Right now I'm sure everyone has put their comfies on, turned on their fire, put their feet up and are relaxing to some peaceful music...or at least that's what I am doing (except Zarine...who I just spoke to and is still driving home....oh dear) ...I think I might even pour myself a glass of red wine. Even though I complain a lot these days about hating Winter, it is these days that I do appreciate the power of nature.
So my magazine obsession continues...I subscribed to Elle Canada and today both the March and April magazine came. When ever I am approaching my house I can see the mail box before I turn to go to where the garage is; and I can see whether or not a magazine is poking out of the mailbox....today it was a nice surprise!
Well not too much else to say! Grey's Anatomy is tonight! I didn't see last weeks, but I am sure I will figure out whats going on. Also Josie has now joined us bloggers and has started her "A Mile a Minute"...welcome! (I was betting on 2 more weeks until an entry, but she came through he he!) . One more thing, Vicky tagged me in the photo above on facebook...too funny a picture. It was Dave's new years party at his farm 2 years ago, and I am still trying to recover!
Ps. (last comment I promise) Today Miss Bryce and Miss Ruttonsha made our TV debut's: we're so cool!
